This Privacy Policy explains how NIRYPH LTD ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and safeguards information in the KanjiSnap mobile app. We follow the principles of the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, and (where applicable) the CCPA. KanjiSnap is designed with privacy first: OCR runs on your device and we do not sell your data.

Key Point: Your camera scans and OCR processing happen entirely on your device. We don't see or store your images on our servers.

How OCR & Storage Work

On-Device Processing

KanjiSnap uses Google ML Kit for OCR, which runs entirely on your device. Your images never leave your phone.

Local Storage: All your flashcards, scans, and data are stored locally on your device using Core Data.

iCloud Sync: If you enable iCloud, your data syncs through Apple's encrypted servers (we don't have access).

Export Control: You control if and when you export your data outside the app.

Sharing & Transfers

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except:

Analytics: Anonymous usage data with Google Analytics (you can opt out)
Crash Reports: Anonymous crash data to fix bugs
Legal Requirements: If required by law enforcement with valid legal process

Camera Access

Required for taking photos of Japanese text. Images are processed locally and not uploaded.

Photo Library

Optional access to import existing photos for OCR processing.
